Recently, state trooper Michael Betz rescued a dog that fell through the ice in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey State police said on Facebook.
Betz was on his way into the New Jersey State Police Lake Hopatcong substation when he noticed Georgy stuck out on the ice, police said.
Betz made several attempts to coax the small dog over to the shoreline, police said. The frightened dog would not come and fell through the ice, struggling to remain afloat, police said.
Georgy eventually made it to a rock formation and Betz put on a dry suit and utilized a nearby paddleboard to retrieve him and escort him safely back to shore, police said. Georgy was happily reunited with his owners, police said.
